Gem State Track

The kids participated in their second season of Gem State Track which is why we've been so crazy busy around here.  We signed the four oldest kids up but, unfortunately, Kamryn and Porter were too young so we bought them a t-shirt so they wouldn't feel left out which they were thrilled about.  Thankfully they got to participate in the weekly track meets where they got to run the 50 meter dash with their little buddies.
Kamryn didn't quite know what to think at the first track meet.  All she knew is that she didn't take first place so she was a little bent out of shape.  I wonder where she got her competitive spirit? :):)

Grandma came for a visit right before track practice one evening and she happened to match the kids so we thought it would be a great photo opportunity!

One afternoon before practice, I went outside to find the kids having roller blading contests along with all kinds of bike tricks and such.  One thing I can say about my kids is they are super creative!
Who knows what Morgan and Jordyn are doing?
I'm cracking up looking at Kamryn's pose in this picture.  Can anyone say, "sassy"?

I guess I should post a little about the kids track season so here goes:
Regan changed things up a bit throughout the season and switched between the 200, 400, 800, and mile depending on the track meet.  She can't decide whether she's a sprinter or a long distance runner but she's good at whatever she decides to run for the day.  That's why I love Gem State Track because the kids don't have to settle on just 2 or 3 events and stick with them like they would in school track.  They can try whatever they want and get a feel for what the really enjoy and what they'll really excel at.  Though Regan hasn't enjoyed running as much since she injured her foot, I'm hoping now that things are healing, she'll get back in to it and get excited about cross country. Anyway, as far as meets go, Regan ran really well and took several 2nds and 1sts.  She also took 1st in the 200 and 800 meter races at the Hershey's Trackmeet which qualified her for the State Hershey's to be held this weekend in Rexburg.  We're looking forward to Saturday!!
Morgan changed things up a bit after the first meet and decided that she'd like to try the 200 meter and the 400 meter.  She settled right in and as her coach put it, "she found her home"!  She ran beautiful races and proved to herself that she can run a little longer distances.  She took first place in both races several of the meets and also took first in her events at the Hershey's meet to qualify her for the State meet this weekend.  She's a beautiful runner with so much potential, now if we can just convince her of it!  Go Morgan!!
Jordyn is sticking with the 50 meter and 100 meter at least for the time being and is a little speed deamon.  She's got the competitive spirit and it shows in her face in every race she runs.  She doesn't like to lose and it is just funny to see how how fast her short little legs can go.  She took 1st and 2nd's in all of the meets and also qualified for the 50 & 100 meter races at the Hershey's Meet so she'll be participating this weekend as well.  Go Jordyn!
Kaleb had a great season and made so much improvement from last year.  He is Mr. competitive and is serious business on the track.  He ran against quite a bit older kids this year because of his age group and still did really well.  He really seems to enjoy track which makes me happy because he's the kid I can't seem to figure out what his interests are besides cowboy hats, chaps, and branding. :):)  Nothing wrong with that, right?
The twins.  Well, they were pretty much awesome to watch this season.  Kamryn tentativly ran down the track and was mad when she didn't take first place.  Porter, on the other hand, was just happy to be running the race and would grin his huge grin at the crowd as he'd run by the bleachers.  He truly has the million dollar smile and uses it to his advantage often.  Kamryn loves to run though and begs us constantly to go to the track to run around and when we do, she runs around and around until she is just pooped.  We'll see if we have another trackster on our hands!
