Why I love my garden

Despite severe neglect to my poor garden this summer, this is what I'm harvesting every couple of days. Anyone want any zucchini???

Garden of Eatin'

My kids love when things in the garden start to produce. They've been enjoying the peas for the past couple of weeks and can be found every day sitting in the pea patch stuffing their faces. Today Jordyn picked her peas and then found a cool, shady, spot on the back of DJ's old car to enjoy her pickings. We just picked our first handful of beans and we ate some red potatoes for dinner last night. I can hardly wait for the zucchini and squash to come on!

The joys of summer!

We planted the rest of our garden a week ago Saturday with help from the kids. I was amazed at how willing they were to help with this project because our garden gets bigger every year. I guess because we keep adding more mouths to feed so what do I expect. The kids also did their rock painting project that they do every year--painting/decorating big rocks the colors of the vegies so we know what rows we've planted what vegies in. It really helps and they have a ball doing it. We have a few things coming up but the weeds always seem to grow better....why is that?? So, I'm quite sure my kids will be whining soon about all the weeding they have to do!

2008 Garden

I have to admit that this is the best garden we've ever had thanks to DJ! I guess that shows what a great gardener I'm not because in years past, I've primarily taken care of it. DJ has worked so hard keeping the weeds down this year and is now spending many hours a week weeding, harvesting and freezing/canning veggies. I don't know how he is doing it all but I appreciate him so much and it's fun to see the fruits of his labors. (or "veggies" of his labors) ha ha! So far we've harvested beans, peas, red potatoes, onions, zucchini & squash and we're looking forward to corn and carrots in a week or so!
