Morgy turns 7!

We celebrated Morg's 7th B-Day on Monday night with a fun evening of present opening, dinner, & the highly anticipated B-day cake. Grandma & Grandpa Rose and Grandma Johnson joined us which is always so much fun for the kids. We missed Jordy and Kaleb.....they've been visiting Grandma and Grandpa Teichert for a few days. Morg's waited patiently all day to open all of her presents and as usual ended up making a haul. She got so many cute things and most of all enjoyed having a day all about her. I spent the day amazed at how quickly the last 7 years have gone by. Last year at this time I was lying in a hospital bed in Salt Lake City trying to keep Porter & Kamryn from being born early. DJ and I both had to miss our sweet Morgan's birthday as a result and I can remember crying my eyes out as I talked to her during her party. Morgan has been a joy to have in our home! Some of my favorite things about her are:
she's kind, extremely smart, shy, silly, sweet, spiritual, strives to do the right thing, responsible with regards to her school work (not always as responsible with room cleaning), honest, and loves to snuggle if it's on her terms. I love you so much, Morg's, and I hope you know how proud dad and I are of you! Happy Birthday!
She got a "Skip-it, clothes from Grandma & Grandpa T, and money from Great Gram & Grandp, and Aunt Julie!
Perhaps one of the cutest moments of the evening was when Morgan opened her gift from Regan which was a "Littlest Petshop Virtual Pet!" Along with the gift was a huge poster/card with a poem, song, comic, & letter all made up by Regan.
The letter was a classic and reads: Dear Morgan, I love you very very much, and I hope that you know that! I love you all so much Morgy. You are growing up so fast! 7 years old, I mean, sorry to mention it, but we are going to be old ladies pretty soon, and then, we might have only 3 choices: take care of each other, live in a nursing home, or sorry to mention it, or to-die. But, lets just enjoy being young, because after all, (thankfully) we have about 80 years left on Earth and so we have a lot of time to hang out together. Anyway, love, your sister, Regan!

G&G Rose gave her the cutest princess alarm clock that plays princess music to wake you up.
DJ & I gave her clothes, flip flops, and a "skip it." Her primary teacher brought a bag full of fun things including a Bible stories book, bubbles, picture of Jesus for the nightstand, a journal, candy, etc. Her friends brought her hairstuff, art things, and a journal. Morgan and Regan made these "present cakes" and decorated them to their liking. I think they did a great job!

The many faces of Morgan

It's next to impossible to get a serious picture of Morg's. She's such a nut and always pulling some funny face so this is my latest attempt. She was seriously just about wetting her pants and had me doing the same after a few shots. Enjoy!

pic #1 (okay, I can do this) pic #2 (I'm TRYING) pic #3 (never mind, I can't)

pic #4 (mom, I'm going to wet my pants) pic #5 (okay, I'm ready....big sigh)

Personality plus! I love you Morgan, you are beautiful inside and out and I think you are pretty amazing!

Hard lesson learned

I'm without a digital camera now because Morgan was fiddling around with mine and accidently dropped it on our tile floor. I had asked her a couple of times to please put it down but instead she kept playing with it and sure enough, just what I thought would happen, did......she dropped it right on the lens. I really amazed myself at how calm I stayed about the whole thing and I'm sure glad I did because Morgan was miserable enough as it was. She sat in a closet for quite a while and sobbed until she was exhausted and then went to find her piggy bank which had all of $3.00 in it... so she could pay me. She proceeded to tell me that she was really disappointed in herself because she'd actually had a lesson on "obedience" that day in primary. She had made a little "I will obey" sign and as soon as she got home she hung it on her mirror. I think that sign was staring her in the face and just pouring salt in the wound. Poor little girl! Don't get me wrong, I was pretty upset but I decided to have a "good parenting moment" as opposed to my MANY "bad parenting moments" so I had long talk on obedience with her and then we decided that since she didn't have enough money in her piggy bank to pay for the camera she should have to do extra jobs to work off her debt to us. It's only been two days but she is sticking to her word and I am now searching for a nice digital camera. I get it now when people say the ache when their kids make bad choices because I felt so rotten watching her be so disappointed in herself but I'm hoping that she learned a lesson!!

Jordyn has had tough luck the past couple of days.....Saturday she slipped while getting down from the cupboard and caught her mouth on the cabinet on the way down and ripped that piece of skin that connects from your gums to the inside top of your upper lip. (I know, poor description) but I don't know what it's called. Anyway, it ripped apart and left a lovely piece of skin hanging down. She was in quite a bit of pain for a couple of days but she's just happy that she doesn't have to get stiches. Today she came to tell me that her toe was sore so I took a look at it and I couldn't believe it...her big toe was twice the size of her other big toe and full of infection. So, we soaked it in Epsom salt, bandaged it along with a bunch of neosporin and hopefully things will look better tomorrow. She keeps telling me that this is her worst life ever!! Boy, if that doesn't make me feel bad.

On a more positive note, I finally finished putting up pears on Saturday. DJ's parents came to visit for a couple of days and helped me put the rest up. They are such troopers and worked so hard for two days. I think I ended up with over 50 bottles of pears when all was said and done. Yippee!! I must be wierd but I get so excited when I see full bottles on storage room shelves! Thanks to DJ's parents, I couldn't have done it without you.

Bad parenting moment!

I'm ashamed of myself! I got Morgan in bed way too late tonight (she requires a lot more sleep than any of our kids) She typically falls asleep very fast and never gives us any grief about going to bed but she was overtired and, I guess, needed a little TLC! She kept coming up the stairs crying and begging to sleep upstairs or have me lay with her but DJ and I were putting up more corn and taking care of babies so I kept taking her back down and telling her to, GO TO SLEEP! (in my not so patient voice) At 9:15, 45 minutes later, Morgan is still not asleep so march downstairs and tell her she's going to get a spanking if she doesn't shut her eyes and go to sleep. I went back upstairs and then had a wave of guilt rush over me so I headed back down to lay with her and, of course, she was out within 2 minutes. Why didn't I do that in the first place and save myself a lot of frustration and she would've been to sleep 45 minutes early! Sometimes I'm so ashamed of myself for having so little patience. Hopefully tomorrow I'll do better!
