Family History Friday-Wedding Day continued

Did you make any special preparations or have any special feelings that day?

This was an amazing day, thanks to my very organized and sweet mother and mother-in-law. They had limited time to put a wedding together, less than 2 months. But I don't ever remember either one of them complaining. DJ's parents had their mission call to Washington D.C., and were leaving in January, so it was either get married in December or wait for 18 months. We both knew that wouldn't work so were extremely grateful for understanding mothers who worked their heads off for 7 weeks to make this a very special day for DJ and I.

I rented my dress from Pedals and Promises in Logan, Utah. It was a beautiful dress. Sometimes I do wish I had it so I could show it to my girls but at the time, money was an issue so I chose to rent it. My veil was interesting, I'm still not sure why I chose it but at the time I was so excited about it. It had this beaded band that came right across my forehead and you should've seen the mark that left especially after wearing it for hours during my reception. I can't believe I didn't see that one coming. Anyway, it really was pretty but not very practical.

We were married at 3:00 in the afternoon and we had the privilege of being sealed by my grandfather, Hal Johnson, my mom's father. It was a beautiful ceremony and I have always appreciated the wise counsel he gave DJ & I that day. We had many of our family members and friends in attendance which made the day even more special. Because the weather was so cold, we didn't get many pictures taken with family outside the temple which I'm kind of sad about but we managed to gather both families for a big group picture on one of the big sets of steps leading to the temple doors.

We had two receptions, one in Blackfoot and one in Cokeville and both were decorated beautifully by our parents and siblings. Mom lined up a girl from Blackfoot to take our pictures both at the temple and at the reception in Blackfoot . She did a nice job and captured some cute moments. DJ's mom put disposable cameras at each table so the guests could snap pictures as they sat and visited and ate refreshments. I thought it was a great idea and as a result, we got some pretty cute pictures.
I can't remember everything about each reception but I remember my dad singing "How to Handle a Woman" at both receptions. He has an amazing voice and I loved hearing him sing this song! My sister, Lori and her husband Brad sang a duet which was really neat. In Cokeville they have a tradition of having a program at the reception. The Teichert's are notorious for roasting their siblings on these occasions. This one was no exception, it was complete with an MC (Matthew, DJ's oldest brother), a musical numbers from DJ's brother, Jonathan, then the 6 brother's changed the words to 2 different songs , "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" by Creedance Clearwater Revival and "Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me" from the old show, "He Haw" which was changed to "Gloom, Despair, and Agony on D." Matthew played the guitar while the brother's all sang and DJ's, Nephew, Adam, who must have been about 7 or 8 at the time played the base guitar. It was hilarious, in fact, I'm so glad I have a video of it because it makes for great Friday night entertainment!
Probably one of my favorite pictures (all the brother's w/ DJ's dad) This is one of the many reasons I admire DJ's mom! Can you imagine raising all these boys?
Me with my sibling's! Love them!!!

DJ and I with my Grandma & Grandpa Rose (my dad's parent's)
DJ's big family--in-law's included!
DJ & I with Grandma Black (DJ's mother)
I'm sad that these pictures are so faded but I'm grateful for these memories!
My family (G&G Rose included)
The quality of the picture is terrible but I love it! It helps me remember just how happy I was that day! How I ever landed DJ, I'll never know but I'll be forever grateful. Love him!!!!
Love these pictures, especially the second one (the expression on his face just makes me laugh)

Wedding Photo's

Wow, do we look young!

I still chuckle everytime I look back at these photos. My hair-do (or is that a hair-don't) is plain hilarious. This wasn't just a style for the wedding, this is how I did my hair for about two years, with a tiny curling iron, hours in front of the mirror, and way too much hairspray. My how times change....I can get ready in just about 20 minutes (shower included) these days. My priorities have shifted just a hair--no pun intended!

Family History Friday- Proposal Edition

How did you propose or how were you proposed to?

DJ moved to Provo after spending the summer in Cokeville. His plans were to attend BYU Provo which he did for one day and then decided it just wasn't for him. He was so upset that half of credits didn't transfer from Ricks and he just hated the gigantic campus where you felt like you were just another number. Certainly not the "Rick's" feeling. Anyway, he got a job building the Micron facility in Provo and had an apartment with some of his friends from Cokeville. I was still living and working in Logan so we'd often meet in Cokeville and spend the weekend at his parent's home. We wanted to be together as much as possible so this was a good arrangement . I can remember DJ teasing me and playing tricks on me from time to time, particularly when it came to his proposal. You really have to know DJ to appreciate these "moments." There were a couple of times that I can remember when I thought he was going to ask me to marry him but then he'd play some funny joke on me. One such occasion was when I went to visit him down in Provo the weekend before my birthday. When he got home from work, I was waiting for him and he told me he had a surprise for me but I'd have to close my eyes and to not peak. I followed orders really thinking this was the big moment (though it would've been a little odd) Anyway, while I was closing my eyes, he got down on one knee and then told me to open my eyes. When I did, he said, "Happy Birthday" and handed me the box set of George Strait CD's. I'm not sure what my face looked like at that moment but his I'll never forget. He knew exactly what I was thinking and loving that he had tricked me big time. I was thrilled with the CD's because I've always been a George Strait fan but, that was not exactly what I had hoped for in that moment. So, the next weekend we spent with his parents in Cokeville. It was November 5th, 2 days after my Birthday. We stayed up really late talking as we always did. He loved to play his guitar and sing to me which he had done that evening quite a bit. I remember sitting on the couch by him and he, with no warning, pulled a ring box out of his pocket. I was sure it would be empty and that this would be another one of his jokes. But, I was wrong, inside was the most beautiful ring I'd ever seen. He asked me, and this time, there were no jokes, just a quiet moment I'll never forget.

In what temple were you sealed?

Salt Lake City, UT- I loved this temple and for as long as I can remember, this is where I wanted to be married. Thankfully, DJ didn't really have a preference on which temple, and the location worked for both of our families.

Family History Friday (How did I meet my spouse)

How did you meet your spouse?

I love this story but I have to admit, it's always funny to see the look on people's faces when we tell the story of where we met. I was living in Logan, UT, getting residency so I could attend Utah State University. It was May of 1995, and I was working at Weslo/Proform Company as a Customer Service Rep and in my spare time, dating off and on. I dated a few guys that I was interested in but mainly I was a "Venus Fly Trap for loser's" as I always told my mom. I had just broken up with a guy that I worked with at Proform and had written off dating for a while when my roommate invited me to go with her to Retrix Dance there in Logan with she and her boyfriend. The thought of being a "3rd wheel" and also the thought of trying to put on a happy face and have fun just didn't sound all that great but somehow she talked me in to it and I remember jokingly saying, "maybe I'll meet my future husband there." Well, the story starts here, DJ had just returned home from Ricks College in Rexburg and was living in Cokeville with his parents for the summer. His brothers frequently came dancing over in Logan which is about an hour and a half drive from Cokeville and he decided to come with them this same evening. I remember sitting there at Retrix with Kaycee (my roommate) and her boyfriend when I noticed this very good looking guy on the dance floor (DJ). I'm embarrassed to admit that I watched him for quite a long time and my roommate kept telling me I should go and ask him to dance. I wasn't about to that but I half jokingly said to her, "I'm going to marry that guy someday". About an hour went by and next thing I know, DJ was asking me to dance. Apparently, DJ's older brother, Tim, had spotted my roommate, (who was gorgeous), and told her she should dance with his younger brother, (DJ). She informed him that she was on a date with her boyfriend but that she had a roommate that he might want to meet. Yep, I was that roommate!! He agreed, and we spent the rest of the evening dancing and talking about everything under the sun. It was crazy how much we had in common especially having both grown up in tiny ranching communities, though Cokeville is a metropolis compared to Park Valley, UT.:) That evening, we exchanged phone numbers and I left hoping that he would by some small miracle call me during the week. I went right home and called my mom and excitedly told her that I had met the best guy ever! I went on and on about him, calling him everything from "RJ, JT, JD, for heaven's sakes, I couldn't even get his name right I was so giddy. I informed my mom that I was going to marry him and I'm sure she thought I was nuts but she acted genuinely happy and maybe hopeful that I had found someone that I liked ! Well, the phone call from DJ never came but for some reason, I ended up going to Retrix again that weekend with my friend. I saw DJ in the crowds of people and literally spent an hour hiding from him because I felt so dumb that he didn't bother calling me. He eventually caught up with me and informed me that I had only written down my address, not my phone number so he didn't have any way of getting in touch with me. Needless to say, I felt really dumb but I was so happy that we'd met up again and we spent the rest of the evening together. Before we left, I was sure to give him my phone number and we went our separate ways. Only this time, he really did call me during the week and we spent a lot of time visiting and he invited me to spend the weekend at his parent's house in Cokeville. Writing this, I can't even imagine that I actually agreed to do such a thing but I called my parents and asked what they thought about me going over there and they felt really good about it so that weekend I drove over and showed up on his parents doorstep. I later found out that his mom thought I was a chaser, in fact, I think she called me a "hussy" but actually I don't blame her. It's seriously the family joke now and I always give her a hard time about it. Anyway, his parents welcomed me in and made me feel right at home and I spent a fun weekend getting to know his family since many of them lived right in Cokeville, close to his parents. I honestly felt like I had known DJ forever and his family reminded me so much of my own. I spent every weekend I could in Cokeville with him but he came to Logan on a Saturday occasionally and we'd sometimes meet in Bear Lake which was about the half way point for both of us. My sister Lori and her husband Brad were living in Logan as well and willingly let me use their little blue car (the blue bullet) to make my trips back and forth. I put the miles on that car but they never complained. Maybe it was because they were so happy that I was not hanging out with them every weekend and now had my own life. Ha ha!! On November 4th, 2005, DJ proposed to me and we were married on the 27th of December, and to think it all started at a little Country Dance place named Retrix!!!

Family History Friday

On what date were you married?
December 27, 1995

What are your memories of that day?
It was really a wonderful day. I still can't believe we chose to be married 2 days after Christmas. My poor mom & mother-in-law! How they ever pulled that one off, I'll never know. But I'll be forever grateful. I will never forget the feeling I had being in the temple with DJ and so many of our family members & close friends. It truly was a little slice of heaven on earth! I feel so fortunate because both sets of my grandparents were there and my Grandpa Johnson performed our sealing. Though I can't recall a lot of what he said, I can remember the spirit that was in the room while he spoke, it was so strong. I have always had a lot of respect for my Grandpa and specifically appreciated the great amount of love and respect he always showed my grandma so it meant a lot to me to have him perform our sealing. We were married in the Salt Lake Temple two days after Christmas on a very cold day. We had our wedding luncheon at the Chuck-A-Rama, yes, you read that right. The food was really great, just wish they didn't have to call it by that name. DJ and I have chuckled about this over the years and when we attend other wedding luncheons at "upscale" restaurants, DJ almost always makes the comment, "the food was WAY better at Chuck-A-Rama." Anyway, funny thing is, we had our wedding luncheon before we got married, just worked out better that way because of the time we had set in the temple for our sealing. I remember waiting for DJ at the restaurant thinking he'd be at least a few minutes early, after all, all of our guests were already there. No…he was there right on time. He had an eye appointment across town to get new contacts and had allotted just enough time to arrive at the luncheon right on time. He wasn't stressed one bit…I was because I grew up with a dad that made sure we arrived to everything at least 15 minutes and if it was any less than that, we were late. At any rate, I was happy to see him and we enjoyed a fun meal visiting with family and friends and then we were off to the temple as mentioned above. Once we got out of the temple, it was late afternoon and the weather was beautiful but really cold so we hurried to get pictures with the family. Everyone was sweet to hang around while we did the whole picture routine. I love looking back at pictures of this day because my nose is red and DJ has his shoulder's slightly shrugged with his hands tucked in his pockets in most of the pictures. He was one handsome guy in a Tux, and still is!

Family History Friday

My sister, Julie, compiled a family history questionnaire quite a long time ago for our parents and grandparents to fill out and now she's working on her own, little by little. In fact, every Friday she answers a few of the questions listed, so before long, she has her life history. So, I'm snatching the idea with her permission in hopes that I will finish one day before my memory completely fades. Wish me luck.

What is your full name?
Cindy Rose Teichert

Do you have any nicknames?

As a kid, my brother Matt gave me plenty of nicknames, none of which I was particularly fond of. Here are a few, Cinny Binny Bum Bum, Bender, Beaner, Cindy Binder Beaner Weaner. Yep, I still love my brother! In fact, Matt had nicknames for all of us. My sister Julie was Juge (how she ever got off that easy is beyond me), my sister Lori was Lige or Hod Sanders. There were probably more but my memory is fading!

Thank goodness my brother has given up those nicknames, now I'm just Cind to him and Cin to my sisters, and I'm, hon, or Cin, or, wild flower, to my husband. He has actually only called me, wild flower, once, and that was when we were dating. He called and left a message on my answering machine that began, "hey, Cindy, my little wild flower (with a slight cowboy drawl)….., I must have played it over 100 times, I think I even called my mom and made her listen to it. DJ is "D" to me, but if you ask him, he prefers, Don Juan. He jokingly tells people that when they ask what DJ stand for!
My girls love nicknames, especially since we didn't give them middle names. Regan is Reg's, Reggy, or Rae, Morgan is Morgy, Morg's, Morgy Pie, Mo, mo, (that's what Kaleb called her when he was a baby and she loves it), Jordyn is Jordy, Jord, & Jordy pie. Kaleb is "buddy" to me, or Buster Brown. Kamryn is Kami, Kams, Kamicans (my mom calls her that)or Sassy pants, Porter is Pord, Pordy, Porter pie, or grumpy pants.

What is your date of birth?
November 3, 1975

In what city were you born?
Brigham City, Utah (President Monson just announced that a temple will be built there in the very new future) Cool!

On what date were you baptized?
I grew up in a small town so I got to be baptized on my Birthday, November 3, 1983

What are your memories of that day?
My dad baptized me. I remember how I wore my hair, and I remember having lots of family there to support me. I also remember hoping that I would never make another mistake again. I think that lasted all of about 5 minutes.
